Test Procedure for Armor-Piercing Handgun Ammunition

This law enforcement technology report describes a test method for determining whether handgun ammunition should be classified as armor-piercing.
Abstract
The method requires discharging an industry standard velocity gun at a target containing 10 aluminum test plates on 10-inch centers. One round of the ammunition to be tested is fired at the test target, and the number of plates pierced are then counted. The test should be repeated to assure statistical reliability in sampling and labeling as 'armor-piercing.' Since this method measures only the number of target plates penetrated by a given bullet, other applicable documents must be consulted before the particular ammunition is labeled. 2 figures.
