AN ANALYSIS, DATED JULY, 1976, OF THE TRAVIS COUNTY (TX) COURTS-AT-LAW SYSTEM WHICH HAS JURISDICTION IN CASES OF CONDEMNATION, MISDEMEANORS, PROBATE, LOWER COURT APPEALS, COMMITMENT, AND MINOR CIVIL MATTERS.
Abstract
THE COURTS-AT-LAW LOCATED IN AUSTIN, TEXAS ARE PRESIDED OVER BY THREE ELECTED JUDGES WHO HANDLED 14,315 FILINGS IN 1975. THE REPORT DEFINES THE CURRENT SYSTEM AND THE HANDLING OF EACH OF THE TYPES OF CASES EXCEPT APPEALS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE PLANS TO CHANGE THE MISDEMEANORS PROCESS TO ALLOW FOR MORE JUDICIAL CONTROL, ESTABLISH A CIVIL CALENDAR WHICH PROVIDES DATES CERTAIN FOR HEARINGS, AND ESTABLISH THE OFFICE OF COURT ADMINISTRATOR FOR COUNTY COURTS-AT-LAW.
