This newsletter for October-December 2014 reports on the activities and resources of the Violence Reduction Network (VRN), which coordinates the resources of the U.S. Justice Department's agencies and offices to assist local communities in reducing violence in their jurisdictions.
Abstract
An overview is provided of the 2014 VRN Summit held in Washington, DC, September 28-October 1, 2014. It brought together executive leaders and key stakeholder from each VRN site. VRN local site delegations had the opportunity to hear and engage in discussions with subject-matter experts in the criminal justice field. The newsletter also profiles the VRN website, which was launched in November 2014 to provide a resource library and background information on VRN. Other VRN resources profiled in this newsletter are its webinars (both completed and planned) on various subjects relevant to VRN objectives and available training resources. The "Subject Matter Expert Spotlight" profiles Joan Brody, who has 24 years of experience and expertise in developing and coordinating strategies to bring public funding to local jurisdictions for countering violence. In addition, the newsletter highlights the VRN efforts in the following cities: Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Oakland/Richmond, CA; and Wilmington, DE.
