This report packet addresses the activities and responsibilities of the Virginia Department of Corrections' Division of Program Development and Evaluation.
Abstract
The division's mission is to plan for and support client services and management needs, to facilitate department-wide policy and program implementation, to incorporate effective techniques in operations and assessment, and to anticipate the short-range/short-range/long-range requirements of the correctional system and encourage initiative in all areas of concern. The division comprises six units and the assistant director's office. The certification unit coordinates and implements reviews that measure compliance with approved Board of Corrections' standards for all institutions, agencies, and facilities under the purview of the department, while the electronic data processing unit operates, refines, and expands current automated systems to assure system, file, and data integrity. The evaluation and monitoring unit provides program evaluation services to the operating divisions for all programs that compare anticipated results with actual results. The planning and policy development unit is responsible for the development and publication of broad departmental policies, the program development unit assists in the design and implementation of new client programs, and the research and reporting unit develops annual and short-term statistical and research reports with analysis and commentary. A brochure for each unit is included in the packet.
