This is an equipment standard developed by the Office of Law Enforcement Standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It was produced as part of the Law Enforcement and Corrections Standards and Testing Program of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The revised standard presented in this report addresses new pistol designs, calibers, revised procedures for verifying headspace, and general revision of the testing procedures. The previous standard added the 10mm and 40 S&W calibers. The current revision deletes the 10 mm and adds the 357 SIG caliber. This revised standard is intended for use in assessing the acceptability of new or re-issue autoloading pistols. It does not address specific safety devises; full or partial magazine release; pistol shot group size, accuracy, or sights; or service life (endurance testing).
