This chapter provides an overview of some of DOJ’s (Department of Justice’s) efforts in the area of elder mistreatment.
Research, statistics, and evaluation projects that have been funded by the National Institute of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the research and statistics arms of DOJ, are highlighted, followed by a summary of specific project findings that have been most influential in moving the field forward or most useful to practitioners in the field. Then some of DOJ’s other policy and programmatic initiatives, including the Elder Justice Roadmap, are highlighted. At the end of the chapter there is a brief discussion of some of DOJ’s investigative and prosecutorial efforts to combat elder abuse and financial fraud targeting elderly individuals.
