Abstract
Understanding that partnerships are essential to building safer communities, OJP works with their partners to prevent and fight crime. For the month of October 2008, Crime Prevention Month, OJP focuses on local efforts to improve neighborhood safety. In May 2008 for National Missing Children’s Day, law enforcement officers and citizens across the United States were honored for their commitment to recovering missing children and fighting child exploitation. The final National Guidelines were issued for the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) in July 2008 providing necessary tools for States to incorporate SORNA minimum requirements into their sex offender registration and notification programs. Also, in July 2008, a new performance standard for body armor was announced by OJP’s, National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Evaluation findings are presented of the DNA Field Experiment, a five-city NIJ-funded study. The OVC HELP for Victim Service Providers Web Forum allowing victim service providers and allied professionals to connect with peers and share ideas about best practices is described, as well as an upcoming forum victim issue sessions. This issue of Justice Resource UPDATE provides readers with important up-to-date information related to OJP program and policy initiative development and implementation, as well as recently released publication resources in areas related to criminal justice policies, programs, and training.
