The standard specifies the minimum requirements for form and fit, performance, testing, documentation, and labeling of OTSs. The standard addresses only system-level components of an OTS model; it does not pertain to individual parts such as electrical resistors. Neither does the standard address all of the safety concerns linked with the use of OTSs by criminal justice professionals. The standard's performance requirements for OTS address safety, technical operation, circumvention, software, robustness, and optional features. Unless specified otherwise, all methods for testing the various OTSs applied to both active and passive tracking devices. Testing methods used for the various OTS models are described.
