Pursuant to the Federal Justice Assistance Act of 1984, this fiscal 1985 annual report describes the programs and activities of the agencies authorized by the act: the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquencey Prevention (OJJDP).
Abstract
Activities of the OJP pertain to the coordination of programs and staff support for BJA, BJS, NIJ, and OJJDP. BJA activities involve financial and technical assistance to State and local governments; and BJS develops statistics on crime victims, offenders, and criminal justice operations. As the research arm of the Justice Department, NIJ conducts research to increase knowledge about criminal behavior and criminal justice operations and evaluates the effectiveness of criminal justice programs. OJJDP administers programs that assist State and local governments in combating juvenile delinquency. This report also indicates the distribution of $124.3 million among the five agencies for fiscal 1985.
