A Colorado 5-year followup recidivism study of 420 juveniles released from the Division of Youth Services (DYS) in 1975 found that 27.6 percent of the youth were later incarcerated as adults.
Abstract
Significantly higher recidivism rates were found for males than females, for delinquents versus children in need of supervision, for minorities, and for certain other classifications of youths. Release placement was not related to recidivism and differences in recidivism rates for the various committing counties were not related to the proportions of minorities committed to DYS from each of these counties. Tables, figures, and 12 references are included. (Author abstract modified)
