This report summarizes grant, training, and technical assistance resources for prosecutors offered and administered by the U.S. Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).
The BJA resources for prosecutors are grouped under the two categories of “Grant Funding Resources” and “Training and Technical Assistance and Other Resources.” Fourteen grant programs for prosecutors are provided. Among the prosecutorial issues addressed in the grant programs are 1) development of effective strategies and programs to address and prosecute those who commit violent crime; 2) programs that prevent wrongful convictions; 3) efforts to address the backlog of unsubmitted sexual assault kits (SAKs); 4) the leveraging of community resources to support the prevention and treatment of drug addiction; 5) addressing gun-related crime; 6) improvement in collaboration between criminal justice and mental health community organizations; 7) strategies for reducing violent crime; 8) strategies for addressing high-crime neighborhoods; 9) addressing, preventing, and reducing school violence; 10) addressing distinctive jurisdictional challenges; 11) resources for addressing violent crime in rural locations; 12) an incentive to attract and retain qualified public defenders and prosecutors; 13) support for cold-case murder investigations and prosecutions for civil rights violations based on race; and 14) support for countering the increase in hate crimes. BJA resources for training and technical assistance address the building of safer communities; broad training and development resources for prosecutors through the National Training and Technical Assistance Center; prosecutorial technical assistance for specific jurisdictional crime problems; and assistance for addressing violent crime through the training and technical assistance provided by the Violence Reduction Response Center (VRRC).
