DEVELOPMENT OF A MODEL FOR PREDICTING CRIME OCCURRENCE IN PHILADELPHIA, DESIGNED TO BE GENERALIZED FOR APPLICATION TO OTHER METROPOLITAN AREAS.
Abstract
PREDICTION MODEL IS MEANT TO ASSIST POLICE COMMANDERS IN DEPLOYMENT OF FORCES. DATA BASE GENERATION CONSISTED OF CRIME FACTOR DETERMINATION, DATA COLLECTION AND PREPARATION. DATA ANALYSIS RESULTS, METHODS, AND FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION ARE PRESENTED. DATA REQUIREMENTS AND MODEL DESIGN ARE DESCRIBED IN THE INITIAL IMPLEMENTATION PHASE. CONCLUSIONS ILLUSTRATE THE SOUNDNESS OF THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT. FREQUENCY OF CRIME IS CHARTED VERSUS TIME, RACE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS. COMPUTER LOADING FACTORS, STATISTICS, AND ANALYSIS METHODS ARE PRESENTED.
