Abstract
In the Convention, States parties condemn discrimination against women in all its forms and agree to pursue a policy of ending such discrimination. The signatories undertake to embody the principle of equality between men and women in their national constitutions or other appropriate legislation, to adopt legislative and other measures to eliminate discrimination, to establish legal protection of women on an equal basis with men, to refrain from engaging in discrimination, and to take appropriate measures to ensure equal treatment of women by all persons, organizations, and enterprises in their respective countries. Belgium has always shown a commitment to protecting the equal rights of women, as illustrated by its constitution and the various commissions it has established to ensure equal employment and other opportunities for women.
