Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) data are presented for Hawaii for 2011.
Abstract
Hawaii's index-crime rate in 2011 decreased by 4.9 percent from the previous year, reaching a record low level, a total of 47,340 index crimes were reported to police statewide in 2011, which is a rate of 3,443 offenses per 100,000 resident population. The violent index-crime rate decreased 4.8 percent in 2011, and the property index-crime rate decreased 4.9 percent, bringing it to the lowest level on record for the State. For violent crimes, murder decreased 16.9 percent, forcible rape decreased 7.4 percent, robbery decreased 7.7 percent, and aggravated assault decreased 2.8 percent. For property crimes, burglary decreased 7.2 percent; larceny-theft, 2.4 percent; and motor vehicle theft, 16.3 percent. The number of statewide index-crime arrests increased 3.4 percent in 2011. Arrests for violent and property crimes increased 2.5 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively. The total clearance rates for reported index crimes increased from 15.4 percent in 2010 to 16.5 percent in 2011. Of the total arrests, juveniles accounted for 22.7 percent. Index-crime rates are also reported by county. In 2011, 383 assaults were committed against police officers. On October 31, 2011, a total of 2,960 police officers and 773 civilians were employed by the county police departments, a 0.2-percent increase in the workforce from a year ago.
