This booklet provides crime-prevention guidelines for hotel and motel managers, particularly regarding drug dealing, prostitution, and clandestine drug labs.
Abstract
The booklet first notes the importance of the hotel/motel management's commitment to devise and implement a security plan designed to prevent various forms of illegal activity. One area related to crime prevention is environmental design. This pertains to factors associated with visibility and access, appearance and maintenance, and advertising. Awareness and detection of warning signs for illegal activity are also important. Warning signs can be observed at registration and after move-in. The booklet lists some of these warning signs. Signs that a clandestine drug lab is operating or has operated in a room are also listed. Other topics discussed are house rules, registration information, grounds and procedures for refusing occupancy, application for tenancy and rental agreements for weekly guests, cooperation with the police, and ways to counter retaliation from residents or prospective residents.
