Abstract
Tuskegee has approximately 12,470 persons and contains 46 percent of Macon County's population. The police received reports of 309 incidents during the survey period, of which 47.9 percent were felonies, 23.9 percent misdemeanors, and the remainder unknown. The number of reported offenses varied widely among the city's five police districts. Burglaries comprised the greatest number of reported offenses at 39.2 percent; followed by grand larceny at 13.6 percent; and assault, vandalism, and disturbance calls at 10 percent, 9.1 percent, and 8.1 percent, respectively. Tables detail offenses by type and district. In District 1 where 31 percent of all reported offenses occurred, 29 percent of the crimes took place between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. District 2, the second highest crime area, had 19 percent of its offenses occurring between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 25 percent between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. District 3 experienced 32 percent of its crimes between 4 and 10 p.m., whereas 18 percent of the offenses in District 4 happened between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. District 5, the lowest crime area, had 32 percent of its offenses occurring between 6 and 10 p.m. Half of all offenses reported were committed Thursday through Saturday. Tables breakdown reported incidents by times of the day and week and district. The report provides maps, tables, and charts.
