This report is a summary for the year 1990 of the monthly statistics compiled by 239 State, county, municipal, and Department of Natural Resources law enforcement agencies within the State of West Virginia.
Abstract
These agencies have provided statistics on the number of offenses reported to them in the following Part I crime categories: criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, felonious assault, breaking and entering, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft. Arson became the eighth crime index offense in 1979; however, these statistics are reported in a separate supplemental form. In addition, law enforcement agencies report on a monthly basis supplemental offense information such as the value of property stolen and recovered; the circumstances surrounding homicides and rapes; the age, sex, and race of all persons arrested; and police disposition of juveniles. Police employee data are collected annually. Information on domestic violence is collected on a monthly basis in accordance with State law, and the subsequent information summarizes family and household abuse in the State. As of April 1988, law enforcement agencies began to provide a monthly controlled substance report that provides information on the quality and types of drugs purchased or confiscated by police in the State, as well as the estimated street value of these drugs. The statistics presented in the tables and graphs indicate the volume and distribution of crime in the State on the basis of a Crime Index. The crime figures are broken down by municipal, county, regional, and State totals.
