The West Virginia Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program aims to provide a consolidated annual crime report and to report statewide crime statistics from a single agency to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Abstract
This document tabulates statistics on Part I crime categories under the UCR program: criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, felonious assault, breaking and entering, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft. Arson statistics are shown separately. Information on Part II offenses -- other assaults, forgery and counterfeiting, fraud, embezzlement, stolen property offenses, vandalism, weapons offenses, prostitution, sex offenses, narcotic drug law violations, gambling, domestic offenses, driving under the influence, liquor law violations, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and other offenses -- are reported only when arrests are made. Factors which affect crime rates and locations include, inter alia, density, size, and ethnic composition of the community population; relative stability and economic status of the population; climate; prosecutor and court policies; and public attitudes toward law enforcement problems.
