DATP is sponsored by the Eleventh Judicial Court, Office of the State Attorney, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Office of the Public Defender, Department of Human Resources, Office of Rehabilitative Services, and Miami-Dade Community College (MDCC). Phase I which lasts 2 weeks assesses the individual's specific needs and evaluates which participants will benefit from the Acupuncture Treatment Component which is considered an effective treatment for reducing addictions to many substances. Phase II, 14 weeks, evaluates the effectiveness of treatment in an outpatient setting. This phase encourages drug-free lifestyle goals through support groups, education, individual therapy, acupuncture, and urinalysis monitoring. After meeting the criteria for the first two parts of the program, offenders can move on to the MDCC Aftercare Module. This phase which lasts 36 weeks provides comprehensive follow-up treatment including educational and vocational development.
