NCJ Number
131204
Date Published
1989
Length
109 pages
Annotation
The employment data for the U.S. criminal justice system contained in this extract file are for October 1985; Federal expenditure data are for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1985 and State expenditure data cover the fiscal year ending June 30, 1985.
Abstract

The data were based on a special compilation of statistics and sources available from the Census Bureau's annual surveys of government finances and employment. The data collection procedures for governmental finances and public employment are described. Data for 1984 and later years are based on a new sample drawn from the Census of Governments conducted in 1982. Data limitations reflect the fact that the surveys were not designed to extract data on specific justice functions. Likewise, the survey sample for the local government estimates was not designed to produce data on these activities. 4 appendixes
