Abstract
The data revealed six categories of particular interest. These categories include: correctional education history, background, and establishment; collaboration between leadership; organizational structure, culture, and governance; research and literature; resources and operations; and expectations, outcomes, assessment, and future of correctional education for females. This article summarizes the results of a study conducted to investigate factors influencing the organizational design, establishment, administration, and governance of correctional education for females. Background discussion is included which is the result of a review of current literature on the topic, providing basis information on the history of female correctional education; program design; and administration and governance issues. Implications are drawn in conclusion for educational practice and further research. The research involved interviews with correctional and community college administrators and practitioners representing North Carolina female offender correctional education programs. Data were collected from the participating sites through semistructured interviews, document analysis, and site observations. Content analysis was performed by comparing and contrasting relevant data points and identifying emergent themes. References
