This report from the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center presents data on family violence incidences reported to law enforcement for the period 2006-2010.
Abstract
Highlights from this report include: between 2006 and 2010, 11,716 crimes of family violence were reported to law enforcement agencies, representing 12 percent of the total reported violent offenses; during the same period, 118,531 incidences of family violence simple assault were reported to authorities; between 2006 and 2010, 18 percent of all family violence victims were juveniles, and 5 percent were over the age of 59; 59 percent of victims of family violence were female, while 70 percent of offenders of family violence were male; 55 percent of family violence victims were White and 44 percent were Black, while 46 percent of family violence offenders were White and 40 percent of offenders were Black; and 85 percent of family violence crimes occurred at a residence. This report from the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center presents data on family violence incidences reported to law enforcement agencies for the 5-year period 2006 through 2010. Data for the report were obtained from violent offenses reported to the State's Uniform Crime Reporting program. The report concentrates on violent offenses such as homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated and simple assault where the victim and the offender were related by either blood or marriage.
