This training and technical assistance resource provides state-by-state COVID-19 emergency housing information for incarcerated persons reentering the community needing safe shelter and housing.
Abstract
Under the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, locating safe housing for those being released from correctional and residential treatment facilities is imperative. This task is made more difficult because many transitional housing facilities have closed or transferred residents to accommodations that enable social distancing, isolation, or quarantine. Information on shelter closings and regional shelter coordination centers has become critical. The information this report provides on emergency housing resources and contacts for each state is based on the most information currently available; however, because conditions change rapidly, it is important to verify that the services listed are still available. Listings and information on state and local contacts regarding COVID-19 include emergency and non-congregate housing options, such as short-term hotel-room leasing, converted dormitories or public buildings, and trailer units. In cases where there is little or no information on housing resources under COVID-19 conditions, this report provides contacts for coalitions to end homelessness, local or state housing and homelessness continuums of care, and other reliable contacts for housing resources. State resources follow after federal and national resources are listed.
