This 2-day training program, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Emergency Training Center, provides an operational understanding of instructional principles and techniques relevant to emergency program management at the local level.
Abstract
The training program is built around a four-step process consisting of preparation, presentation, application, and evaluation. Successful completion of each planned step involves a process of identifying the factors important to the total process and considering each of these factors as the course proceeds. The preparation phase introduces the basic elements of instruction, formulates training objectives, chooses training methods, and prepares a training environment. In the presentation phase, the student learns about accepted methods of instruction, including conference, discussion, demonstration, illustration, and lecture. The unit on application focuses on practical teaching skills, while the final section, evaluation, discusses evaluation design and administration.
