The Offender Based Information System (OBIS), developed for the California Department of Corrections (CDC), captures information regarding commitment, offenses, cases, movement between prisons, and descriptive data.
Abstract
The system also provides the ability to track parolees returned to custody to CDC and local facilities, to admit and track interstate cooperative parolees, and to provide local law enforcement agencies with information about the location and status of parolees in their area. The system permits the monitoring of an inmate's current release date under either determinate or indeterminate sentence law with a system to record good time credit or work/training credit. The Name Match Function was developed to help OBIS users determine the CDC number of any individual previously entered into the OBIS. Given all or part of a name, this function produces an online list of names and descriptor information, including the CDC number that matches the entry. Procedures for using the OBIS are detailed and illustrated.
