This May/June 2023 newsletter highlights the National Missing Children’s Day commemoration, the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the annual symposium for AMBER Alert coordinators, and a Tribal community of practice virtual forum for Tribal communities with family treatment courts.

Abstract

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP) spring 2023 issue of the OJJDP newsletter provides a message from the Administrator on missing children; the Top Story is on the Justice Department’s commemoration of National Missing Children’s Day; and other highlights include the Coordinating Council on Juvenile justice and Delinquency Prevention’s April meeting and their discussion of services and resources provided to youth reentering the community after incarceration in attempt to be more responsive to youth needs, and the Tribal Connections section, which highlights presentations from the Native American communities at the AMBER Alert and AMBER Alert in Indian County Symposium. Special Features include two articles, one on a “Take It Down” tool for youth to remove explicit online images, and a Stakeholder’s Corner article on empowering justice-involved youth in East Baton Rouge. The Tribal Connections section also includes an article on best practices for Tribal family treatment courts and an updated Tribal legal code resource. The News in Brief section includes six articles on topics such as children’s and youth’s inability to pay fines and fees; the national 4-H conference; trace historic cases in youth justice that are now available on the OJJDP website; a training opportunity for youth violence prevention grantees; the addition of programs on adolescent trauma, sexual violence, and youth reentry, to the Model Programs Guide; and repercussions for sexual misconduct incidents by staff in juvenile justice facilities. Links for information on upcoming justice-related events and OJJDP funding opportunities are also included.
