Abstract
ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT ARE TO PROVIDE DIRECT SOCIAL SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS OF WOMEN IN THE PHILADELPHIA HOUSE OF CORRECTIONS, THE STATE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION AT MUNCIE, AND IN THE COMMUNITY. OTHER ACTIVITIES WERE THE PROVISION OF CONSULTATIVE SERVICES, THE TRAINING OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF DATA ON WOMEN OFFENDERS THROUGH A DATA BANK. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES INCLUDED A REVIEW OF CASE RECORDS, MONITORING OF ALL PROJECT MATERIALS, AND A SURVEY OF 25 AGENCY AND COMMUNITY PERSONS WORKING WITH THE PROJECT STAFF. THE EVALUATION SHOWED THAT THE DATA BANK AND TRAINING OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS WERE NOT REALIZED. THE GOAL OF APPROVING FIVE WOMEN A MONTH TO BE RELEASED ON RECOGNIZANCE THROUGH CONDITIONAL RELEASE TO THE PROJECT WAS ALSO NOT ACHIEVED. THE OBJECTIVE OF PROVIDING CONSULTATION AND CONTACT WITH 10 AGENCIES AND ABOUT 30 PROFESSIONAL PERSONS WAS REALIZED. FINALLY, THE OBJECTIVE OF PROVIDING INDIVIDUAL SERVICES TO 140 WOMEN AND GROUP SERVICES TO 70 WOMEN WAS CONSIDERED TO BE ATTAINED. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE PROJECT SHOWED A HIGH DEGREE OF EFFECTIVENESS IN AIDING CLIENTS AND IN PROVIDING INFORMATION AND EDUCATION ON FEMALE OFFENDERS. RECOMMENDATIONS ON FUTURE PROJECT DIRECTIONS ARE INCLUDED.
