Abstract
The author of this study comments on some aspects of Eric Baumer and Kevin Wolff's work, his focus is on three key points: 1) crime has declined dramatically not just in New York City, not just nationally in the United States, but also globally; 2) New York City is not particularly unique among U.S. cities in the extent of the contemporary crime drop; and 3) Crime patterns in New York should not be considered without discussing the changing ethnoracial and economic plight of neighborhoods in the city. The author also discusses crime decline and the role of gentrification of neighborhoods. Abstract published by arrangement with Taylor and Francis.
