RESULTS OF A STUDY TO DETERMINE WHETHER PASSAGE OF TIME AFFECTS THE NUMBER OF CRIMES REPORTED FOR A GIVEN PREVIOUS TIME PERIOD.
Abstract
IT WAS THOUGHT THAT AS CRIME INTERVALS INCREASED UP TO A YEAR, A VICTIM WOULD BE LESS ABLE TO RECALL THAT HE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRIME, AND THAT HE MIGHT BE MISTAKEN AS TO WHEN IT HAD OCCURRED. ANOTHER PURPOSE OF THE STUDY WAS TO LEARN IF AN INTERVIEW QUESTION CONCERNING ASSAULT WOULD ELICIT MENTION OF RAPE BY KNOWN RAPE VICTIMS. IT WAS HOPED THAT ALL OF THE DATA GATHERED WOULD ALLOW A CLASSIFICATION OF CRIME CONSISTENT WITH THE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS.
