THIS IS A REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF A METHADONE TREATMENT PROGRAM, WHICH IS INVOLVED IN REHABILITATING HARD CORE DRUG ADDICTS.
Abstract
THE GOALS OF THE EVALUATION WERE TO DETERMINE THE IMPACT OF THE PROGRAM ON THE ADDICT POPULATION OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY IN REDUCING PATIENT DRUG USE AND DECREASING PATIENT CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. ALSO STUDIED WERE PATIENT SOCIAL PRODUCTIVITY (EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT) AND PATIENT SOCIAL FUNCTIONING (INVOLVEMENT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS). AMONG RECOMMENDATIONS DERIVED FROM THE STUDY, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE STAFF OF THE PROGRAM INTERACT MORE FREQUENTLY WITH NARCOTIC LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND THE COURTS. THE NARRATIVE PORTION OF THE TEXT IS FREQUENTLY DOCUMENTED WITH TABLES THAT REPORT STATISTICS OF THE GROUPS OF ADDICTS STUDIED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...KAP
