The concept of regional centers developed as a means for NIJ to learn more about the needs of law enforcement and corrections professionals and to use the specialized technological expertise available around the country. The National Center is the hub for coordinating, collecting, and disseminating information about new equipment, guidelines and standards, and technical assistance. Law enforcement and corrections professionals call the National Center or connect to the Justice Technology Information Network to obtain general information or order publications such as reports on product testing. The National Center also manages the voluntary equipment standards and testing program and supports the outreach efforts and activities of the Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Advisory Council.
