The California Post-Disposition Representation Manual covers topics such as substantive juvenile delinquency law and procedure, special education, mental health, collateral consequences, appeals, rehabilitative resources, and re-entry. This toolkit is intended only to provide information, not legal advice, for the youth defender.
The Pacific Juvenile Defender Center developed the California Post-Disposition Representation Manual in response to California Assembly Bill 703's mandate for all juvenile defenders in the state to provide effective and comprehensive post-disposition advocacy to their clients. Among other topics, the manual covers substantive juvenile delinquency law and procedure, special education, mental health, collateral consequences, appeals, rehabilitative resources, and re-entry. The authors hope the manual will assist defenders in fulfilling their statutorily and ethically required duties to their young clients, with the ultimate goal of helping those clients successfully navigate out of the juvenile justice system and into adulthood and beyond. For ease of use, the manual is organized in a question-and-answer format designed to assist readers in finding information quickly and efficiently. This toolkit is intended only to provide information, not legal advice, for the youth defender. *This resource is restricted to California youth defense practitioners only.
