None of the models completely complied with every parameter specified by the standards. However, several models met all but the user information requirement. In no case did the manufacturer provide a certificate of compliance with the standard, and the majority of models did not include a statement on ammunition known to be beyond the design limits of the pistol. Data for each model covers compliance with user information, visual inspection, dimensional, functional, drop safety, and drop function requirements. Results of firing tests also are provided. Overall, test results indicate that the majority of pistols were not combat ready as supplied. It is suggested that law enforcement agencies base their purchase decisions on the extent to which the failure to comply with specific requirements limits the pistol's ability to meet an agency's individual needs. 4 tables.
