This document provides an executive overview of basic Federated Identity and Privilege Management (FIPM) concepts; it also introduces the Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management concept of information sharing based on FIPM.

Abstract

This overview document lays out basic Federated Identity and Privilege Management (FIPM) concepts and also introduces the Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management (GFIPM) concept of information sharing based on FIPM. It also discusses the GFIPM value proposition and provides additional resources. The overview’s main target audience is executive management desiring to understand the GFIPM's value proposition within the justice information-sharing environment. The overview makes the business case for GFIPM; provides details of the GFIPM value proposition and work products; discusses federations using GFIPM work products, including sections on the National Information Exchange Federation, FBI CJIS Law Enforcement Online Enterprise Portal (LEO-EP), and CONNECT Consortium; provides GFIPM online resources, and points of contact. The appendix provides the brief document history.
