This annotated bibliography consists of 13 listings of individual studies, journal articles, and legal cases that pertain to trafficking victims with various physical disabilities or mental illness.
The listings are grouped under the topics of trafficking research, legal cases, and disability and mental health research. The five listings under "Trafficking Research" address statistics on survivors of human trafficking globally and in the United Kingdom and United States, with attention to data on victims with disabilities or mental illness. The two listings under "Legal Cases" are a 2017 digest by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime that reviews evidence used in human trafficking legal cases, with a section on cases with victims who have disabilities. The second listing in this section is an interview with Sarah Bessel, who is involved with Disability Justice, an online resource intended to educate legal professionals on the forms of abuse, violence, and crime that people with disabilities face, as well as how to adapt legal services and court practices to meet their needs. Bessel discusses individual cases in the United States that have involved trafficked people with disabilities. The six listings under "Disability and Mental Health Research" are research reports that focus on individuals who had disabilities or mental illnesses prior to becoming trafficking victims, with attention to the physical and mental consequences of trafficking and exploitation.
