This Fact Sheet summarizes information on the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grants (JAIBG) program, which is intended to promote greater accountability in the juvenile justice system.
Abstract
In order to be eligible for funds under the JAIBG program, the governor or other chief executive of the qualifying "State" jurisdiction must certify that the jurisdiction has adopted, is considering, or will consider within 1 year laws, policies, or procedures that address four juvenile justice issues deemed essential to the juvenile justice system's accountability. These requirements are outlined in this Fact Sheet. Assuming compliance with these requirements, JAIBG grants are available for 12 specified juvenile justice projects. Among these eligible projects are the construction of juvenile detention or correctional facilities and the training of personnel for these facilities; accountability-based sanctions programs; the hiring of specified juvenile justice personnel; and the funding of prosecutor-led drug, gang, and violence programs. Other eligible projects are listed. Information is also provided on the distribution of grant funds to units of local government.
