Abstract
It opens with a description of the proceedings of two conferences for faith-based and community organizations hosted by OJJDP during March and April of 2008. These conferences reflect the Bush administration's priority on involving faith-based organizations in Federal services to the public. OJJDP has increased its training efforts to support faith-based organizations in all aspects of its operations, from securing funding to managing their public outreach. This is followed by an outline of OJJDP Administrator J. Robert Flores' address at the 24th National Symposium on Child Abuse held March 17-20, 2008, in Huntsville, AL. He emphasized OJJDP's commitment to assisting law enforcement, court personnel, child and family service providers, advocates, and lay community members in the development of a more effective and compassionate response to child victims while holding adults responsible for maltreating children. Also mentioned in this issue is Administrator Flores' address to the Working Group on Internet Child Safety. In addition, the issue presents remarks of OJJDP's Deputy Administrator for Policy, Nancy Ayers, at the annual conference of the Blueprints for Violence Prevention initiative (March 17-19, 2008). Other OJJDP activities mentioned in this issue are training sessions for disproportionate minority contact (DMC) coordinators held in January and February 2008; proceedings of the National Youth Gang Symposium in June 2008; and news from the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice, and OJJDP staff.
