This report describes how the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) used its resources in fiscal year (FY) 2020 (October 2019 – September 2020) to provide training and technical assistance (TTA) that support OJJDP’s mission to improve the efforts of states, Tribes, and communities in their development and implementation of effective and equitable juvenile justice systems.

Abstract

OJJDP’s TTA services and activities in FY 2020 were aligned with OJJDP priorities, responsive to the needs of the field, and delivered efficiently and effectively. This 2020 Annual Report on OJJDP’s TTA features the efforts of its National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) and its TTA Network. The NTTAC directly supports the juvenile justice field by brokering TTA requests, managing the use of web-based platforms, providing marketing and outreach support to service providers, and operating virtual learning and information-sharing platforms to support OJJDP and its TTA providers. The NTTAC also operates OJJDP’s TTA Help Desk, which provides access to TTA information for juvenile justice professionals. OJJDP makes awards to organizations that provide TTA to state, local, and Tribal juvenile justice personnel. These organizations compose the OJJDP TTA Network. In FY 2020, OJJDP’s TTA Network consisted of 38 provider organizations from across the nation. These organizations managed 49 grant-funded projects that served child-protection and juvenile justice fields. Services included information dissemination, online and in-person training, and onsite customized TTA. The five OJJDP TTA Network goals are to 1) maximize and leverage resources through coordination; 2) work collaboratively to address common challenges; 3) use technology to efficiently deliver and track TTA; 4) promote standardization and consistency in quality; and 5) communicate TTA needs to OJJDP. Topical areas addressed through TTA in FY 2020 are outlined. 13 figures
