For this episode of the Justice Today podcast, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) scientist, Mary Carlton, joins the host to discuss current research on human trafficking. Starting with its definition, Carlton goes on to discuss the various types of trafficking and victim profiles, the prevalence of trafficking in the U.S., risk factors and vulnerabilities that would increase the likelihood of trafficking, as well as the development of technological tools to aid investigators in understanding, preventing, and responding to human trafficking. The podcasters also discuss some examples of NIJ-funded research on the topic of human trafficking as well as the related issue of violence against women.
