These studies were funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to fill gaps in the body of knowledge concerning the prevalence and nature of youth violence in rural and non-metropolitan communities, community-level predictors of youth violence, and the effectiveness of violence prevention strategies in these communities.
Abstract
The studies focus on bullying and antisocial behavior among middle school students, patterns and correlates of gun ownership among middle school students, the prevention of bullying by middle school students, social disorganization and youth violence in rural settings, and juvenile homicide. Each study is presented as a separate chapter in the report that includes a description of relevant literature, specific hypotheses, the study methodology, study findings, and a discussion of the implications of the findings for researchers and policy-makers.
