IRVINE, CALIFORNIA PROGRAM TEACHES LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS HOW TO MASTER THEIR VEHICLES BY USING LOW SPEED SIMULATIONS OF DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATIONS.
Abstract
THE ACADEMY OF DEFENSIVE DRIVING USES THE HAZARD TRAFFIC SIMULATOR, WHICH CONTAINS A NUMBER OF PROGRAMMED TRAFFIC SITUATIONS THAT CAN BE SET INTO MOTIONS. PROPER INSTRUCTION TEACHES THE INDIVIDUAL HOW TO DECIDE WHERE HIS VEHICLE MUST HEAD AND AT WHAT SPEED CONTROL CAN BE MAINTAINED. THE INDIVIDUAL ALSO LEARNS HIS OWN LIMITATIONS, SUCH AS HIS PERSONAL REACTION TIME AND THE SPEED AT WHICH HE IS MOST CAPABLE OF HANDLING HIS UNIT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
