STUDY TO EXPEDITE THE INSTALLATION OF AN EFFECTIVE STATEWIDE POLICE SELECTION AND TRAINING PROGRAM.
Abstract
THIS STUDY IS DESIGNED TO SUPPLEMENT THE PRESENT RESOURCE OF THE MICHIGAN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TRAINING COUNCIL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ADVISORY STANDARDS FOR MICHIGAN POLICE OFFICER SELECTION AND TRAINING. THE PRODUCTS OF THIS STUDY WILL EXPEDITE CONSIDERABLY THE INSTALLATION OF AN EFFECTIVE, STATEWIDE POLICE SELECTION AND TRAINING PROGRAM FOR MICHIGAN. THE SPECIFIC PROJECT GOALS OF THE STUDY AREA (1) THE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION CONCERNING PRESENT POLICE SELECTION AND TRAINING PRACTICES, (2) A REVIEW OF EXISTING MLEOTC MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH RECOMMENDATIONS, WITH A TIME SCHEDULE FOR UPGRADING THESE STANDARDS, (3) A REVIEW OF EXISTING FACILITIES FOR CONDUCTING POLICE TRAINING ALONG WITH RECOMMENDED MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR MLEOTC APPROVED SCHOOLS, (4) STUDYING THE FEASIBILITY OF REGIONALIZING THE STATE INTO TRAINING AREAS FOR CONDUCTING MLEOTC POLICE SCHOOLS, (5) DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARDS FOR INSTRUCTIONS USED IN MLEOTC TRAINING SCHOOLS, AND (6) DEVELOPMENT OF OUTLINES FOR SUBJECT AREAS TAUGHT IN MLEOTC TRAINING SCHOOL
