Abstract
THE STUDY INCLUDES A DESCRIPTION OF OFFENSES COMMITTED AT THE TIME OF ARREST AND REASONS FOR DISMISSALS OR ACCEPTANCE BY THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE FOR PROSECUTION. THERE IS ALSO A DISCUSSION OF GUILTY PLEAS, TRIAL VERDICTS, AND SENTENCING PATTERNS THAT RESULTED FROM ARRESTS IN THE SAMPLE. ANALYSES INCLUDE CROSSTABULATION OF OFFENSE CATEGORIES, INDICTMENTS, GUILTY PLEAS, AND CONVICTIONS BY SUCH SOCIAL INDICATORS AS ETHNICITY, AGE, SEX AND REPORTED RESIDENCE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
