Abstract
FOLLOWING BRIEF ANALYSES OF INSURGENCIES, COUNTERINSURGENCIES, AND URBAN GUERRILLA WARFARE IN GREECE, ALGERIA, FRANCE, THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC, LATIN AMERICA, CHINA, AND SOUTHEAST ASIA, AN EXAMINATION OF CONTEMPORARY INSURGENCIES SHOWS CAUSES THAT INCLUDE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS AS WELL AS POLITICAL AND SOCIAL AWARENESS. THE OPERATIONS, CHAIN OF COMMAND, AND PARTICULAR MOTIVATION OF PARTICULAR INSURGENCIES ARE EXAMINED. DOCUMENTS INCLUDED ON GUERRILLA WARFARE ARE BY EXPERTS SUCH AS ANCIENT CHINESE WRITERS, AN AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR WRITER, VIETNAMESE GENERAL GIAP, AND LATIN AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARIES CHE GUEVARA AND FIDEL CASTRO. THE APPENDIX LISTS THE MOST FREQUENT REASONS FOR INVOLVEMENT IN GUERRILLA ACTION INCLUDING RESISTANCE AGAINST A FOREIGN POWER, FREEDOM WARS SUCH AS IN ALGERIA, RACIAL SURVIVAL SUCH AS IN BIAFRA OR BY THE KURDS IN IRAQ, SOCIAL REVOLUTION AS SEEN IN CHINA AND CUBA, ECONOMIC WARS, AND WARS OF LIBERATION. AN INDEX IS INCLUDED. (RFC)
