FINAL REPORT ON A PROJECT TO SET UP AND OPERATE A MODEL COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS PROGRAM INCORPORATING COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS AND GOALS, CITIZEN INITIATIVE, AND IMPROVED EFFICIENCY IN ADJUDICATION AND RESOCIALIZATION.
Abstract
A DETAILED CHART IS PRESENTED WHICH INDICATES THE STATE OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE STANDARDS AND GOALS OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS. CITIZEN INITIATIVE IS USED IN A PUBLIC EDUCATION AND INVOLVEMENT PROJECT, A DETENTION STEERING COMMITTEE, AND AN ACTIVE USE OF VOLUNTEERS. IMPROVED EFFICIENCY IN CRIMINAL ADJUDICATION WAS ACHIEVED THROUGH IMPROVED DIAGNOSTIC AND REFERRAL SERVICES AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE COURTS, FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SENTENCING ALTERNATIVES, AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION. IMPROVEMENTS IN CRIMINAL RESOCIALIZATION RELATE TO THE IMPLEMENTATION AND EXPANSION OF PROGRAMS RECOMMENDED IN NATIONAL STANDARDS, AND THROUGH ACTIVE USE OF RESEARCH, EVALUATION, AND PLANNING.
