Abstract
A BRIEF HISTORY OF CORRECTIONS IS PROVIDED AND THEN THE PRETRIAL, POSTTRIAL, AND POST INCARCERATION PERIODS ARE ANALYZED WITH EMPHASIS PLACED ON SENTENCING AND CORRECTIONAL ALTERNATIVES. CONCLUSIONS ARE DISCUSSED AND ISSUES ARE PRESENTED BY THESE METHODS. BIBLOGRAPHY
