REVIEW OF THEORIES AND STUDIES DEALING WITH DEVIANT BEHAVIOR, FOCUSING ON PERSONALITY FACTORS, AND METHODS FOR PREDICTING AND REHABILITATING THE CHRONIC OFFENDER.
Abstract
THIS PAPER POINTS OUT VARIABLES WHICH INFLUENCE INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR, EXAMINES MILITARY EFFORTS TO COMBAT THE PROBLEM, AND PROPOSES POLICY MODIFICATIONS IN DEALING WITH DEVIANT INDIVIDUALS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE A COMPREHENSIVE PERSONALITY TEST ADMINISTERED TO ALL PROSPECTIVE MILITARY INDUCTEES, AND WHEN RESULTS INDICATE SIGNIFICANT MALADJUSTMENT, REFFERAL MADE TO A SPECIAL TRAINING FACILITY FOR COUNSELING AND THERAPY. OTHER SUGGESTIONS INCLUDE ASSIGNING MEN TO CATEGORIES CONSISTENT WITH THEIR CAPABILITIES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISPOSITION AND PROVIDING PERSONALITY DATA TO COMMANDING OFFICERS FOR INSIGHT INTO DEVIANT BEHAVIOR.
