STUDY OF YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS TO DETERMINE CHARACTERISTICS THAT SEEM TO CORRELATE WITH A PRONENESS TO COMMIT VIOLENT ACTS WHEN RELEASED UNDER PAROLE SUPERVISION.
Abstract
THE RESULTS OF THE ATTEMPTS TO DEVELOP A VIOLENCE PREDICTION INDEX SUGGEST THAT A YOUTHFUL INDEX CAN BE CONSTRUCTED ALTHOUGH A GREAT DEAL MORE RESEARCH IS NECESSARY. THE AUTHORS CONCLUDE THAT THREE ISSUES NEED ATTENTION IF FUTURE RESEARCH ON THE VIOLENT OFFENDER IS TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL - THE DEFINITION OF VIOLENCE, THE CLASSIFICATION OF OFFENDERS WHO COMMIT VIOLENT CRIMES, AND THE POTENTIAL FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VIOLENT OFFENDER.
