AN AUTOMATIC STATEWIDE AUTO THEFT INQUIRY SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL PROVIDES VEHICLE INFORMATION INSTANTANEOUSLY TO POLICE OFFICERS.
Abstract
A SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATION OF AUTO THEFT RECORDS WAS DEVELOPED WHICH PROVIDES PARTICIPANTS IN REMOTE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA AND ADJACENT STATES WITH CURRENT DATA. HAVING OBTAINED INFORMATION BEFORE STOPPING A VEHICLE, AN OFFICER IS AFFORDED GREATER PROTECTION WHEN APPROACHING VEHICLES AND APPREHENDING CRIMINALS. THE PROGRAM IN CALIFORNIA IS SUPPLEMENTED BY NATIONAL THEFT REPORTS ON CALIFORNIA VEHICLES FROM THE FBI NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER (NCIC).
