Abstract
A VIEW OF POLICE ACTIVITIES WITHIN A MUNICIPALITY IS PROVIDED WITH AN ANALYSIS OF THEIR EXISTING DATA NEEDS, AND CONSIDERATION OF THESE FUNCTIONS AS A HORIZONTAL SUBSYSTEM WITHIN THE TOTAL CITY INFORMATION SYSTEM. THE POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEM IS CONSIDERED AS A VERTICAL SUBSYSTEM TO THE OVERALL CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM. THE DIGITAL COMPUTER IS EVALUATED IN CONNECTION WITH DATA PROCESSING SUPPORT FOR ACCOMPLISHING THESE SUBSYSTEM-SYSTEM LINKAGES. INCLUDED ARE CONCEPTUAL AND DESIGN LEVEL SYSTEMS FLOWCHARTS AND DATA MATRICES TO DESCRIBE THE FLOW OF POLICE INFORMATION, AND THE BASIC DESIGN OF A POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEM AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY IS PROVIDED.
